Weekday Read-a-thon Plan

RebeccaReadathon

Allison @ The Book Wheel and I are hosting our Weekday Read-a-thon tomorrow, April 24th!  The read-a-thon starts at 6:00am (or whenever you wake up) and runs for 24 hours.

We’re having Twitter checkins and some fabulous prizes!

More info here: Weekday Read-a-thon

Here are some tips to help you out:

  • Plan ahead with your food, grab those snacks you might want during the time you’ll be reading so you don’t have to scramble later on
  • Prepare your drinks too!  Coffee?  Soda? Juice?  Wine?  Whatever you’ll need, make sure you have it!
  • Decide what books you’re going to be reading.  Short stories?  Classics?  A loooooong book?  Make it a variety and you’ll stay interested for longer.
  • Take a break.  If you’re reading for an extended period of time, switch things up with a walk outside, a trip to the gym, a nap, even our Twitter chats!  The point is to read more, but you need breaks, too.

So here’s my personal plan:

  • Snack Food: Fresh bread (that I’ll need to make in advance), carrot sticks, celery, a smoothie (will need to be made), a bag of chips, and something sweet, like M&Ms or Skittles.  All of this will be ready in advance, and then I’ll stop for lunch and dinner, too.
  • Drinks: Both hot and iced coffee ready to be made at home, plenty of water
  • Books: First I am going to finish the book I am currently reading.  Then, I will catch up on Project Atwood with The Tent (super short) and The Penelopiad (moderately short).  I want to read a Classics Club book, maybe an Edgar Allen Poe or two, since those are nice and short for breaks.  I think I’ll try to fit in a Kate Morton book since I’ve been told to do so!  More time?  I also have 2 library books I might pick up or I’ll see where my mood takes me!
  • Breaks: I’m going to take my dog for a few walks, and maybe do some of my reading outside if it’s nice out.  I’ll participate in and lead some of the #WeekdayRead Twitter chats.  Maybe even write a blog post or two as a break!
  • Other: Wake up at 6:00am and do as much reading as possible!  Check in on Twitter during the checkins and on occasion throughout the day.

And my plan is also to wing it when I feel the need, as the day takes me!

Here’s Allison @ The Book Wheel’s plan!

We would love for you to come join us for the read-a-thon!  Even if it is that you can only read 5 more minutes per day!

If you are joining us, share with us your plan for tomorrow!

Thanks for reading,

Rebecca
